Amongst some of the largest festivals are the ones held at Glastonbury and also the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight festival takes place in the summer each year and has done for over years. It is the first music festival held each year to start off the summer season. It all started with a number of festivals that were held in the two years between 1968 and 1970 and these were often likened to other world festivals such as woodstock. The festival in 1970 was set over five days and saw the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Supertramp playing to crowds of well over 600,000 people.

Between the years 1970 to 2002 the festival took a break whilst it was tweaked a little under the guardianship of John Giddings (a music promoter). From 2002 there have been some incredible artists and musicians who have played on the Isle of Wight stages and these have included David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Amy Winehouse, Blondie and the Rolling Stones, to name just a few. Over the years more and more artists have added the festival to their yearly calendar of appearances.
