Materials for the DIY solar heater with soda cans

- Collect and clean the soda cans
The first thing you should do is collect the maximum number of cans of soda possible. This will depend on the dimensions of your solar heater. Once you have them, you should cut the top and bottom of the cans forming a hole. In turn, you should wash the inside of the cans to eliminate all the residues that may present.
Stick the soda cans
Once the cans do not present liquid residues, you must join them with high-temperature silicone. You will have to join them to form several columns. Remember to calculate the number of columns to be formed, depending on the number of cans of refreshment you have. When you make the columns of cans, they should be painted with black paint. It is advisable to verify that the paint is resistant to high temperatures.
Isolate wooden box and make holes
The wooden box should have enough dimension so that the cans fit without the problem. Of course, the box must have extra space to add an additional table and to ensure its isolation.
Previously, the interior of the box must be covered by an insulator such as rock wool. Then, in an additional table, the holes for the ducts must be made. The holes will have to be the size of the cans and must be made as many as necessary until they fit with the columns of the cans. Once the holes are finished, the table will be placed inside the box located on one of the ends, matching the holes of the cans with the holes in the table.
Perform holes for heat input and output
Once the cans have been fitted inside, the holes for air inlet and outlet will be made. You can use an aluminum tube. The most successful is to make the hole in one of the corners of the box where the separation was made with the additional table.
Once the cans are placed inside the box, polycarbonate can be placed. This material allows to keep the heater isolated and also improves the efficiency of the reception of the sun’s rays.
Once your solar heater is finished, you can test it and see how it works.
