How to Make a Apron

How to Make an Apron? Step by Step Guideline

When I make food, I’m usually thinking about my things, and suddenly I look down and there are mysterious splatters all over my pants. Because this is a chronic condition that apparently never goes away, I have a collection of aprons. They’re perfect for a beginner and are made quickly, and all you need is a pair of napkins and a bit of cotton tape. I like to make different varieties per season. Even if you are not a splash queen like me, a washable cotton apron is still useful. Let’s get into the tutorial.

How to make an apron?

You will need:

  • Two equal napkins 45x55Cms / 18 «x 22»
  • Cotton tape
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Ironing board and iron

How to Make a Apron

Step 1:

Take your two identical napkins and place them on top of each other with the pictures together. Put pins on the sides and sew a seam all around, leaving a few cm/inch open.

Step 2:

After sewing, cut off the pesky corners. Get rid of the extra fabric, this will make it easier to sew a decorative seam along the outer back.

Step 3:

Remember the opening. We will use it to turn the fabric to the right side. Fold loose edges and press.

Stage 4:

Put the fabric back under the needle and sew a seam in all directions. This does two things: It will close the hole, which is obviously important, but it also adds a bit of detail for a part, in another basic way.

Step 5:

Take your cotton tape and cut two 18x 36cms / 7 “x 14” rectangles. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to get the pocket flap. Press the edges of the opening, but do not sew the stitch out yet. Attach it to the front of your apron with the opening at the bottom.

Step 6:

Did you notice? Okay, now you can cover the edge of your pocket with your presser foot. Sew on one side, at the bottom and up to the other side, but not through the top (it is a pocket). This will attach the pocket to the main part of the platform and close the opening at the same time.

Step 7:

Lastly, place a cotton ribbon along the top of the platform. It can be adjusted depending on the size of your waist and whether or not you want it to wrap around itself.

Now you can be around the kitchen, without fear of getting stained by splashes. It could also be a nice gift, as part of a cute basket with some wooden spoons and a cookbook.
